The film follows Liza ( Katie Holmes ), her husband Sean (Owain Yeoman), and their young son Jude (Christopher Convery). After a traumatic home invasion in London leaves Jude mute and Liza struggling with PTSD, the family moves to a secluded guest house on the Heelshire Estate to heal.
While exploring the woods, Jude unearths the porcelain Brahms doll buried in a shallow grave. As Jude becomes increasingly obsessed with his new "friend" and starts following a strict set of rules, the family discovers that the doll’s influence is far more sinister than they imagined.
