In this episode, attempts to recreate the lost formula for Synthetic Energon to replenish the Autobots' dwindling supplies. Frustrated by his perceived limitations in combat, he tests the experimental and unstable substance on himself. The substance makes Ratchet highly effective in battle, but he becomes verbally abusive toward his teammates and excessively violent toward Decepticon miners.

The Autobots rescue Ratchet as the Synthetic Energon begins to wear off. Back at base, a humbled Ratchet apologizes for his behavior and vows to conduct proper testing before ever using the formula again.

Overconfident, Ratchet tracks down Megatron alone at a Decepticon energon mine. Despite his enhanced state, he is eventually overpowered and severely injured by Megatron.
