In the pilot episode of " Castle ," titled " Flowers for Your Grave ," the worlds of fiction and reality collide when a copycat killer begins staging crime scenes to mirror the murders in Richard Castle's novels. The episode, which premiered on March 9, 2009, introduces the playboy mystery author as he is brought in for questioning by Detective Kate Beckett. While Castle is initially intrigued by the attention, he quickly finds himself drawn to the stoic Beckett, eventually using his connections with the mayor to shadow her for "research" on his next book series.
