The trail leads to Jed, the town’s father figure and Ryan’s dad. Alex discovers that years ago, Jed caused a mining accident that killed several workers. To protect his reputation, he made a deal with Typhon to bury the evidence—literally.

When Alex confronts Jed, he attempts to kill her by shooting her and leaving her for dead in an abandoned mine shaft. ⚖️ The Confrontation

The reunion is short-lived. During a night in the mountains, a "controlled" blast from the local mining giant, Typhon, triggers a massive rockslide. Alex and Gabe are caught in the path. While Alex is saved, Gabe is killed.
