Michael looked at the screen. The Kobayashi Maru was a test designed to see how a captain faced death. But in the 32nd century, the stakes weren't a simulation. She looked at Stamets. "Paul, can we use a localized burst from the spore drive to 'nudge' the station's orbit? Just enough to clear the interference?"
"The DMA is pulling us in!" Tilly’s voice rose an octave. "Paul, I need a jump!"

"Michael," Admiral Vance’s holographic image appeared on the bridge, "Starfleet Command is tracking the DMA. If the Discovery gets within the event horizon of that anomaly, we lose the ship and the spore drive. You have your orders. Evacuate who you can and jump out."
"Locking on!" Tilly shouted. "Fifty-two life signs... fifty-five... I’ve got them!" Michael looked at the screen
Michael stood up. "Zora, can you reroute emergency power to the thrusters? We need to use the station’s debris as a gravity slingshot."
"There are fifty people in those lower labs, Admiral," Michael countered. She looked at Stamets
"Captain, the station’s structural integrity is at 12%," Saru reported, his voice calm despite the tremors shaking the deck. "The DMA's edge will reach them in four minutes."
