Leyla looked at him then. She saw the fear in his eyes—the kind of fear the song describes as "kahpe" (treacherous), the kind that creeps into every decision. But she also saw the passion he was trying to reignite.
Eren gripped the steering wheel, his knuckles white. Beside him, Leyla stared out at the passing shadows of pine trees. She felt what the song calls a ( tatlı bir uyuşukluk )—a numb exhaustion that started at her toes and climbed to her skull. Gece Bana Bir ЕћarkД± SГ¶yle
She didn't start with a pop hit or a happy tune. She began to hum a melody they had written together years ago near the rivers of their youth. Her voice was thin at first, but as it filled the cramped car, the "shadow" that had been stroking their hopelessness began to retreat. Leyla looked at him then
Leyla didn't turn her head. "Some people are like clear water, Eren. But we... we’ve become like a ( çamurlu bir göl ). You can’t see the bottom anymore. You’re afraid of what’s down there". Eren gripped the steering wheel, his knuckles white
The car hit a pothole, and the old cassette player hissed to life. A low guitar melody began to play—the solo that some say echoes the soul of "Stairway to Heaven".
As the sun began to break over the mountains, they weren't "fixed," and the well hadn't vanished. But for the first time in a long journey, they weren't traveling alone. They were just two people, sheltered by a song, waiting for the day to turn. About the Inspiration
I’ve always wanted to go to the Keys! The Christmas before J was born, we had decided our Christmas gift to the family would be a trip to the keys. However, when J made his appearance in October that year, we just couldn’t see driving that far with a 2 month old. And I haven’t been brave enough since. I’m tucking this away for later! 🙂
I adore Key West, it’s such an eclectic unique town. Definitely not like any place else I’ve been in the United States. It was totally not what I expected, but fun none the less!
I love Key West and need to plan a trip back out there! My family took a trip there for spring break once and it was a blast. We parasailed, took a sunset cruise, went snuba diving, and ate awesome food! I loved the roaming chickens and pink taxis 🙂
Love these ideas!! I’ll have to save this!
I want to go and do EVERYTHING! It looks like a fun place to go. I am all about good food and shopping! 🙂
Taking my picture at the southernmost point is on my bucket list. I’m glad to know that I should go early to avoid the lines. Thanks!
looks so pretty there, and like there’s a lot of fun for a family to have!
LOVE IT! I have had this urge to travel lately and the keys sounds like a great place for me to check out.
Looks like a fun place to be! We’ve never been to key-west before, but have hear a lot of great things about the food, atmosphere, and of course, the weather!
